Amounts and quantities of money, distance and time take a singular verb.
· Five hundred ringgit is more than enough for the trip.
· One hundred sentimetres equals to one metre.
Two singular subjects connected by ‘or’ take a singular verb.
· Lina or Jessie is to be blame for the mistake.
· He or she lives a busy life.
A collection noun can take either a singular or a plural verb, depending on whether it represents a single unit or individual parts of the unit.
· The staff is in a meeting.
· The staff are in disagreement about the findings.
When using ‘either…or’ or ‘neither…nor’ in a sentence, the verb agrees in number and person with the subject closet to it.
· Either my sister or brothers are going to help with the cooking.
